Octopus, Fish, and Pumpkins!

We are getting back on track with our "Letter of the Week" work, but making it a bit less prep-work on Mom by using printable activities for a great website called Confessions of a Homeschooler.  Each week we'll do similar activities for the letter we are focusing on, so I probably won't mention much about it going forward.  In September we focused on O for octopus, F for Fish, and P for Pumpkins.  Below is some of the activities we did (and will continue to do) to learn letters and sounds.

We start by learning the wall card chant (from one of the schools I've worked at) and then go through our basket of objects making the sound.  "/p/ /p/ pumpkin" and so forth - Reece has gotten very good at this.

We practice the shape of the letter a few different ways - by tracing it with dry erase markers and using dot stampers (shown here) to make the letter.  Reece LOVES this.

Here he is poking the letter O with a kabob stick.  The tool/weapon aspect of this is always very interesting at first, but he gets bored after a few pokes and needs to be strongly encouraged to finish what he's started.

Reece loves spelling the word of the week by matching upper case letters (on bottle caps) to the lower case letters printed below.  We're working on putting the letters down in order from left to right.
