Happy Halloween! We had a busy week or so of Halloween parties and
events, this year culminating in Reece's first time trick or treating. Reece insisted on being a crane, so Mom channeled the Freeman tradition of cardboard Halloween costumes and got to work. His truck is a bit ambiguous, but the hand crank makes him a crane. Nell happily dressed as his freight. Notice how her costume shows off her curvy thighs.
A week before actual Halloween, we went to the annual Little Pumpkins party at the Providence Athenaeum. We enjoyed unveiling our costumes, watching a music performance, and eating some snacks. The next morning we went to a party with our playgroup. The kids played, ate, and trick or treated around the house to each of the moms. The wheels began joyfully turning in Reece's little head as he surveyed his bucket of treats and toys...what is this holiday all about?

On Sunday, we were very excited that Uncle Chris and Kathleen came for a visit, before Hurricane Sandy made her appearance on Monday. We went to "Spooky Zoo" at Roger Williams Park and met up with some more of our friends. Reece got to trick or treat around the zoo, but mostly he got to spend the morning with his idol.

Nell was in the Halloween spirit as well, rocking her new bib from Grama while eating peas. She also was a champ at the Brown Street Park Halloween party on the 31st, where she napped in the carrier while an 8-piece brass band performed five feet away. It was a bit too chilly to show off her freight costume, but since her jacket has bear ears, she got to be dressed up anyway.
Our celebrations culminated with the main event - trick or treating in our new neighborhood. We had lots of trick or treaters, but Reece was definitely the cutest (and smallest) on the street. He and Mom went to about ten houses and Reece did a great job saying "trick or treat" and thank you. He thought very hard as he picked his candies, often double checking when he saw something that looked unusual (like Twizzlers) - "Is this food mama?" You can tell he's a novice though, since he chose way too many Dum Dum pops over good chocolate!
